Counselling Approach

Taking the first step to seek counselling takes a lot of courage, and can seem daunting at first. From my own experience, I know how important it is to find a counsellor who feels right and with whom you feel comfortable.

It has been recognised that the counsellor-client relationship is probably the most important component in successful therapy.

Therefore, I endeavour to provide a warm, supportive and empathic environment for you to explore your circumstances in a confidential space and at a pace that respects your needs so that you feel heard, accepted and understood.

I can help you to explore your thoughts, feelings and relational patterns of behaviour. Your growing self awareness and understanding will help you to make positive choices and move forward. Also, you will gain new perspectives on your circumstances and relationships which will provide you with hope and vision for the future.

Counselling will also help you to establish healthier ways of communicating and connecting with others to lead a more fulfilling life.

Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they're never weakness. Brene Brown

As an integrative counsellor, I will draw upon a number of different therapeutic approaches to meet your unique individual needs. These include:

  • Creativity
  • Existential
  • Gestalt
  • Humanistic
  • Integrative
  • Mindfulness
  • Person Centred
  • Relational
  • Sandtray Therapy
  • Transpersonal

    What happens next?
In our first session, we will explore what has brought you to counselling and what your expectations of counselling are. There will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions and see how I work. We will arrange a regular day and time to meet each week and regularly review our work together.

How many sesssions will I need?
When we first meet we will look at your circumstances and what your needs are, then negotiate between us how many sessions you would like. Some people prefer to work short term whereas others prefer to work longer term.

    Session length and fees:
Sessions are £45 and last for 50 minutes.
Payment can be made by cash or cheque at the end of each sesssion or BACS transfer in advance.
